This speech was far ahead of its time. JFK was a flawed individual like many politicians, however he seemed to be arriving at an epiphany toward the end of his life. He was beginning to notice a very dark trend not only in America, but in all of western civilization. He was one of the only Democratic presidents who recognized that big government was slowly eroding the civil liberties promised in the Constitution. Nothing really changes from president to president whether they are Democrat or Republican. It's hard to choose sides when this is so apparent. I'm not saying I'm a huge fan of the Kennedy's, but after hearing these words many very wealthy entities viewed JFK as a threat to their enterprise. I like to think free enterprise is a good thing but it's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that the majority of the taxes I pay is used to cover the interest accumulated by our government borrowing money from a (private) bank called the "Federal" Reserve. Just something to think about :)
